Fast 5 Q&A with Matthew Wiesner

Matthew Wiesner is the Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Australia, presenting partner of Invictus Games Sydney 2018. Jaguar Land Rover has backed the Invictus Games since its inception and is pleased to extend this support to 2018. We asked Matthew about Jaguar Land Rover’s history of supporting the Australian military and why it’s important for all Australians to get behind those who serve and have served.

1. Internationally, Jaguar Land Rover has supported the Invictus Games since they were first held in 2014 and thanks to this partnership the tradition will extend to Sydney 2018. Why is Jaguar Land Rover proud to sponsor Invictus Games Sydney 2018?

Jaguar Land Rover is again delighted to be a presenting partner of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018. We want to continue inspiring and encouraging wounded, injured and ill military personnel to take part, because we have seen the remarkable differences the power of the Invictus Games has made to people’s rehabilitation.

2. Land Rover has been providing vehicles to the Australian military for many years, can you tell us a bit about this history?

Land Rover has been partnering with the Australian Defence Forces since 1958, filling a wide range of motorised duties both at home and in every theatre of war from Vietnam to Afghanistan. The Australian military has used Land Rovers in almost every guise, from almost-standard vehicles to specially developed Long Range Patrol Vehicles and 6×6 Land Rovers tailored for ambulance, transport and troop-carrying roles.

3. In what ways does Jaguar Land Rover support defence service personnel?

Jaguar Land Rover supports defence force personnel in any way it can. Perhaps the biggest display of our support is shown in the way we get behind the annual Invictus Games.

4. Why is it important for corporate Australia to back our veteran community?

Corporate Australia should be serving the people who selflessly serve our country. They deserve our appreciation, support and respect.

5. The Jaguar Land Rover Challenge is one of the most exciting events on the Invictus Games competition schedule. What can we expect as part of this event in Sydney 2018?

The Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge is the first chance any of the competing nations have to win a medal and that alone heightens the excitement factor. The Challenge traditionally tests communication, teamwork and planning skills as well as outright driving ability. What can we expect to see when it comes to the Challenge events in Sydney? It’s too early to reveal what we will do Down Under, but stay tuned.
