BOARD DIRECTOR

Cheryl is an experienced member of various sub‐committees of the Board including Audit, Risk, Finance, Digital, Nominations and Remunerations. During her governance career, Cheryl has also developed deep experience at successfully delivering major events, in particular having been on the Board of the AFC Asian Cup which was delivered in Australia in 2015; Cheryl was also the Chairman of the very successful Adelaide International Film Festival. She has a deep connection with sport, as previous Chairman of the Australian Sports Foundation, previous Director of Soccer Australia and Basketball Australia, and a current Director of the Football Federation of Australia.

As an individual, Cheryl is also widely known for her interest and achievements in extreme sports and mountaineering, having summited the world’s Seven Summits (highest peak on each continent) over the past 15 years. She was also the first mother/daughter team to summit Mt Everest and complete the Seven Summits which she did in 2008. More recently in 2013, Cheryl skied, unsupported to the South Pole, ending a 10 year quest to become the first Australian women to complete “the Explorers Grand Slam.”

Recently, Cheryl was appointed the Board of the Princes Charity Trust and rotated off the Spark Infrastructure Board. In contrast to her previous commitments and portfolio of Directorships, she has sufficient time to commit to the Games Board and will be a solid contributor to running a successful event. She has been an enthusiastic candidate and is excited about the possibility of making a personal contribution.
