Outreach Program to deliver lasting positive impact for veterans

The competition in 11 medal sports from 20-27 October is only one part of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 presented by Jaguar Land Rover.

Organisers are committed to delivering a memorable sporting competition and an exciting program of events that will provide education and legacy benefits for veterans and their families – long after the closing ceremony.

While the world celebrates the sporting exploits of wounded, injured and ill active and veteran service personnel, the Outreach Program will feature experts in a variety of fields.

The 12 events across six days are expected to attract over 1,500 guests.

Commencing on Monday 22 October, the daily themes for the Outreach Program are; the power of education, the power of sport, the power of volunteering, mental health and two days with veterans as the focus including a focus on careers.

Invictus Games Sydney 2018 CEO Patrick Kidd OBE said the Games is a wonderful opportunity to provide a positive impact on veterans as well as a broader education piece for media and the community.

“The magic of Invictus Games Sydney 2018 is that it will provide a wonderful competition experience to assist competitors in their rehabilitation as well as provide opportunities for the future,” said Mr Kidd.

The significant interest that the Games generates will help amplify the important themes and messaging of the Outreach Program.

“Long lasting legacy requires all levels of Government, corporate partners, established charities and veteran organisations to work together. I am pleased with the contribution from stakeholders across the board and impressed by the experts who will help educate and contribute to these tangible benefits.”

The Outreach Program features experts with a focus on tangible outcomes and encourages the public and media to recognise, honour, respect and embrace those who have served and support them in their recovery and future stages of life.

As the anticipation and excitement builds for the thousands of spectators, 1000 family and friends and of course the 500 competitors from 18 nations, there have also been additional symposiums held in Sydney ahead of the Games and the Outreach Program commencing on 22 October.
