Invictus Games Sydney 2018 receives Australian Government contribution

The Invictus Games Sydney 2018 has received a $10,000 contribution from the Australian Government to mark the occasion of the marriage of their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Dominic Reid OBE, Chief Executive Invictus Games Foundation offered a message of thanks, speaking to the impact the Games will have for competitors, family and friends.

“On behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation I would like to thank the Australian Government for their contribution to Invictus Games Sydney 2018 presented by Jaguar Land Rover.

“These funds will support the delivery of a life changing experience for 500 competitors from 18 nations along with 1000 members of their family and friends as they take part in the fourth Invictus Games ‘Down Under’ this October,” he said.

Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull extended his congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“On behalf of all Australians, Lucy and I congratulate Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their marriage,” said Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

“To mark this occasion, the Australian Government, on behalf of the people of Australia, will make a $10,000 contribution to Australian International Military Games Limited, a not-for-profit charity that will bring the Invictus Games to Australia this year.

“The Invictus Games showcases the courage, resilience and determination of wounded veterans, while promoting the power of sport for recovery and rehabilitation. We look forward to welcoming more than 500 competitors and 1000 family and friends from across the world to Sydney in October. Once again, congratulations on your marriage. Australia wishes you long life and happiness together,” he said.
