The Australian team for this year’s Invictus Games has been announced with 43 serving and former serving military personnel headed in Canada.
The Australian Defence Force (ADF) and the Returned and Services League (RSL) are supporting a combined team to compete at the games in Toronto from 23 to 30 September.
The athletes are backed by dedicated coaches and a full medical and management team.
The 2017 Invictus Games will bring together more than 550 athletes from 17 nations, who have become wounded, injured or ill during their service, in a celebration of tenacity and courage.
The Invictus Games is an initiative of Prince Harry and is an international adaptive sport competition using the power of sport to motivate recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding of the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve and the family and friends who support them.
Competitors selected in the 2017 team will have the opportunity to contest a range of adaptive sports including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair tennis, archery, athletics, indoor rowing, powerlifting, road cycling, sitting volleyball, swimming, and new to the 2017 Games, golf.
